• Help patients to clean themselves and their room, e.g., any accessories, dentures, nail clipping, etc.). Ensure that patients are okay with our help.
• Teach them to say dzikr and the Syahadah.
• Arrange their face & feet to face the Qibla direction.
• Slowly drop water into their mouth as they are usually thirsty.
• Family members are suggested to read the Quran to the patient consistently. 
• If someone is on the brink of death, it is suggested to lay them on their right side and their face in the direction of the Qibla.
• If the above is not possible, it is suggested that they lie on their backs with their faces slightly tilted toward Qibla. They should also stretch their feet to face the Qibla direction.

• Close their eyes and mouth. Tie a piece of cloth from the lower jaw to the top of the head to help the mouth stay closed.
• Put a weight on the stomach to avoid bloating.
• Wrap both knees with a piece of cloth.
• Change their clothes and cover their body properly. Take off their clothes carefully and change to another piece of cloth to cover their body. Please ensure their modesty and aurah while completing this task.
• Place the body on an elevated surface, such as a bed. Ensure the legs face the Qibla and the head is placed slightly higher than the legs using a pillow.
• Massage or flex the joints of the body to prevent them from becoming rigid. This will help ease the process of washing and shrouding the body.
• Inform the members of the masjid or khairat kematian regarding the death. If the person who passed away has an active Pusara Pro certificate, you can also make your claims on Ouch apps. Every Pusara Pro member is entitled to 10% Compassionate Benefits paid within 24 hours to help with funeral expenses.
• It is sunnah to make haste with the dead body, including the process of washing, shrouding, carrying, and burying the deceased. It is not advisable to delay, such as waiting for family members, which can take more than one day.
• Inform your neighbour on the news to encourage their doa’ for the deceased and perform Janazah prayer together.

If the death happens at home, close relatives or neighbour can help with the following actions:

• Make a call to the nearest hospital, and an officer will come to confirm the death.
• The medical officer will note the time of death and sign with their name and staff number.
• Visit the nearest police station with the following documents:
  • Notes from the medical officer
  • The deceased identification card
• The deceased medical history/documents
• Once a police report is completed and the necessary documents are filled in, they will issue a Burial Permit (Permit Penguburan)
• Keep a few copies of the police report and Burial Permit for funeral management purposes and death certificate request at the National Registration Department.
• Proceed to inform the masjid for funeral management.

The deceased are no longer able to do anything other than rely on the surviving relatives to help manage them. It is best to contact the masjid or experts to help manage the body and confirm if the deceased contributed to any Khairat Kematian fund.

Islam has obliged those who are living to manage four things when a Muslim passes away:

• Wash the body - to clean and honor the deceased.
• Shroud the body - The next step after washing is to shroud the body with a specific cloth for burial (kain kafan).
• Perform Janazah prayer—When a Muslim passes away, the living perform Janazah prayer to seek forgiveness and blessings for the deceased.
• Bury the deceased - the last obligation in managing the deceased of a Muslim. This step is wajib (fardhu kifayah) for Muslims.

• Pay their debt - After the burial is completed, ensure that the property left by the deceased is managed accordingly and pay any debt that they may have.
• There are two (2 ) types of debt: debt to Allah and debt to other humans:
  • Debt to Allah includes hajj, zakat that are not yet paid, any fastings that they might have missed, and others.
  • Debt to other humans includes any housing loan, cars or personal.
• Management of any property and inheritance left by the deceased. There are three (3) stages of property management:
  • The first stage is to get a power of attorney from necessary parties such as the Takaful operator (e.g., Ouch! Pusara Pro, Amanah Raya, or High Court).
  • The second stage is to appoint an administrator. After the letter has been issued, the administrator will need to visit every place where the deceased registered their property.
  • The third stage is faraid distribution. This will only be done after all the necessary payments, including paying debt, waqf, hibah, or marital property claims, have been made.
